Annual General Meeting and A night of music therapy presented by Professor Bill Thompson and Dr Amee Baird

Professor Bill Thompson, editor, author and Director of the Music, Sound and Performance Lab at Macquarie University, accompanied by Dr Aimee Baird, will review current uses of music as a treatment for neurological disorders that often affect the elderly: Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and dementia. They will show that music can be understood as a powerful ‘combination therapy’ that interacts with neurological disorders on multiple levels of function, allowing patients to circumvent their impairments, affecting neurochemical systems and, in some cases, stimulating processes of brain plasticity that lead to recovery of function.
